Hello! My name is Luuk Jacobs, and this is my portfolio as a generalist game artist. I like to work on small, experimental and stylized projects where I can go wild with new and interesting techniques, and where I can utilize and expand my 2d and 3d skills together to the fullest. When I am not working on games, I also do (commissioned) illustrative work.I am always working on new things, so be sure to check in regularly for updates!

Oki is a character that I designed and modeled with the challenge of making them fit in the world of Ni no Kuni. My goals were to learn how to analyze existing design principles, apply them to my own work, and to create an end result that was as close to the concept art as possible.

The story is that Oki is a travelling entertainer who is too self-conscious to show their real face, thus hiding in a giant clown-like costume. I purposefully omitted the face because I wanted to explore other ways to express their personality.

In this project, I was in charge of designing organic and natural elements for a fictional planet, where a giant corporation is attempting to gain control over its natural resources.

I chose a swirling pattern as a guideline for the natural elements to evoke a calm yet otherworldly atmosphere. The components of the trees were modeled and textured separately, so that they could be easily reassembled into different shapes and share the same material.

The shape language of the ore is inspired by mushrooms, once again using a swirling pattern at its core.
I photobashed parts a necklace I own and a gemstone to finalize the concept.

This is one of the smaller companies that are fighting against the corporation's tyranny. I based the design on dutch windmills to symbolize technology that works harmoniously with nature instead of disrupting it. The shape language is inspired by bird nests.

In this project, you explore a desolate mineshaft where your grandfather was once stationed during a war. With the environment I wanted to make the player feel anxious and lonely, like danger is always lurking right around the corner.

The subject matter was quite far out of my comfort zone; I had to go through many iterations to arrive at a point where I was satisfied with the overall look and feel. I experimented with combining pixel art and 3d through decorations and texturing.

You have reached the end (for now)!
Thank you for taking your time to look through all my work, I really appreciate it.
